Logistics of Wiren Lessons:
Schedules & Deadlines:
Lessons will generally be posted on Mondays. All assignments are due by noon CST (Chicago time) on Sunday so that I can review and grade them. I will, when possible, post “Finalists” for the community to vote on.
Lesson Texts:
You MUST READ everything posted in the comments under all of the images for each lesson. I do NOT have the time to answer questions that are already answered in the lesson texts. Thank you carefully reading everything first before asking questions.
Assignment Rules:
Unless otherwise indicated in the assignment section of the lesson, all submitted images for these lessons are required to be NEW IMAGES ONLY. The point of these lessons is for you to learn by using the information provided in the lesson texts and examples to create new images. If you simply tag old images you are only denying yourself the learning experience that these lessons are designed to provide you.
Also, all assignments are designed in order to be completed using your iPhone/iPod Touch camera. Please help keep the playing field level for all participants by only using these cameras (meaning no DSLRs). Thank you.
Hash Tags:
#WirenLesson* = The actual lesson postings. Do NOT tag your images to this!
#WirenAssignment* = What you will tag your lesson assignments with.
*=the number of the current lesson, for example:
#WirenLesson3 = Where the lesson, examples, and directions will be available.
#WirenAssignment3 = Where that lesson’s assignments will be located for review.
Wiren Grade A:
If you find that I've posted the comment "Grade: A" (from any of my accounts: @WirenLessons, @WirenCreative, or @Wiren_Challenges) you should be proud! You've just received a high mark on your lesson image!
If you have received this comment from me, please add the tag #WirenGradeA to be included in a gallery of the best images from all of the challenges.
**NO HASH CRASHING! IF YOU HAVEN'T RECEIVED THIS COMMENT FROM ME AND TAG THIS YOU WILL BE ASKED TO REMOVE IT.**
Location of Lessons:
Instagram:
These lessons are primarily based in Instagram at the feed for the user @WirenLessons.
(You are expected to understand how to use Instagram (IG) to participate and I will not be able to answer questions relating to how to use IG. However, the IG Community is very friendly and usually willing to help each other out if anyone has a technical question. Looking at other people’s feeds, reading the comments under posted images, and adding your own comments, is the best way to learn how to use IG - just jump in and play with it.)
Lessons will be posted across a series of images at the feed of @WirenLessons. These will usually consist of an introduction image with the lesson itself located in the comments below that image. This will then be followed by a few example images posted with comments that cover the details of how the examples illustrate the lesson. Finally, an assignment posting will be located at the end with the week’s assignment, directions, expectations, what I will be looking for in the images, and the technical details, such as the hashtags for posting your completed assignments.
Each week’s lessons will be clearly identified within the feed by the colour of the background that the images are placed on. All postings for a single week will have the same colour background, and each week will have a different background colour, in order to distinguish them from one another.
Blog:
In addition to the Instagram feed, I am also posting the lessons to a blog, located at: http://wirencreative.blogspot.com The link is available at the top of the @WirenLessons feed.
This blog has three purposes. The first is an option location to more easily read the lessons. The blog will also provide a place where I will sometimes post other writings related to photography, it’s history, theory, practice, and it’s place in contemporary culture and society. These additional readings are not required in order to understand the lessons or to participate, but they may be of interest to those who are looking for an even greater depth of learning experience. The blog is also a place for lengthier discussion of the ideas introduced in the lessons if the members of the community are at all interested in discussing them with each other.
Additional Apps:
I will not usually require you to use any special or paid apps to complete lessons, but on occasion I may ask you to use a free app.
That being said, there are some basic apps that are very useful if you are looking to become an “iPhoneographer” or to truly have the capability to express yourself through this medium. These are generally available at a small price. I do not require them, but I do highly recommend them. Please visit the App Store on your iPhone/iPod Touch for more information about these apps: Squaready, Snapseed (or some other tool to adjust things like brightness , contrast, and colour), and PicFrame. [NB: I am not related to any of these apps, these are simply the ones that I find most useful.]
Instagram Etiquette:
You are expected to comply with Instagram Terms of Service as well as the collectively accepted etiquette that has been established by the Instagram Community. Please see the hashtag #igetiquette for further details. Most importantly, all images that you post must be of your own creation. There is no faster way to incur the wrath of the IG Community than to steal someone else’s images. Thank you for respecting the community and conducting yourself in a respectful manner.
Copyright Notice:
Please be aware that all of these lessons, their content, both images and text are all copyrighted. When images from other Instagram users are posted as examples permission has been obtained and the original user still retains the copyright to those images. Do not violate the copyright laws that protect these materials. If you have questions, please contact me directly through Instagram. Thank you.
