You may be wondering who this person is that is teaching these lessons on Instagram. This posting is designed to outline my background and to let you know my qualifications to be teaching these lessons. As you will see, you are getting a great opportunity for free by participating in these lessons.
Education:
Bachelor's of Arts degree in Art History, Cultural Studies, and Educational Psychology. Minor in Art Studio.
Master's of Art in Cultural Memory, specializing in the role of art objects (primarily portraiture & photography) within cultural rituals and as vehicle of cultural transmission between generations. Master's minor in Museum Studies.
Experience:
I've worked as a freelance arts writer (academic research, art criticism, conference papers, arts book reviews, etc) as well as other freelance arts work such as jurying exhibitions, speaking at museum events, and so forth. I've been doing this for about five years now. I’ve also volunteered teaching at various non-profit organizations, including teaching English to new immigrants, and Sunday school to small children.
I also had my own portrait studio and worked full-time in photography for a few years before deciding I like it as a hobby but not a career. I still do occasional freelance photography work but I don't advertise.
