Wiren Lessons Replaced with Book Project

I've decided that I simply can't do the Wiren Lessons I started on Instagram as free lessons online. I would love to give away my knowledge to help and inspire others but I have to be realistic about the fact that I need to be able to keep a roof over my head too. I'm sure everyone can understand that. The writing and supervising of these lessons simply take too much time for me to be able to do them at no profit to myself. I'm sorry for this.

The Great Painters' Photography 2

Inspired by this original image from @robdoran (Thank you for letting us borrow it!) and my regular thoughts about how the vision of the Great Painters of the past compare to how we see the world today, I created this two-off photo challenge for my followers. This challenge will both inspire your creativity but also expand your knowledge of the history of art.
Please note that if you post your submission in the first 24 hours after I post this challenge I will not believe that you made a true effort. As with all of my challenges, the point of them is to challenge you, to build your creative strength, and to teach you.

(NB: I forgot to post this online here: the IG challenge is finished now, but its not a bad exercise for blog readers who still want to do it on their own.)

Update...

Almost finished with this major jobs application I've been working on. I just have a few other personal items to catch up with, then I can tackle lesson #2. Its half-way done already, I just need some free time to finish it up, then I'll get it posted (see note on IG too).

Sorry for the delay here, but finding a job has to take priority over IG sometimes. Thank you for all your patience and understanding everyone!

PS: I also have started blog posts on the following topics that should be posted soon too!
– Abstract Photography
– Social Psychology, Viewing Trends, and Copyrights
– Filters & Cultural Memory

365 Projects

January 1st is the day that many people begin a new 365 Project. (I started mine on my birthday, another good time to start.) These projects catalog a year in your life and art as well as being a challenge to your creativity.

A 365 Project is a project that you commit to doing every day for one year (365 days in a year). These have been around for a very long time and can be done in a variety of mediums or aspects of life, not just photography. Some of the things people have done include: a photo a day, a new recipe, a poem, painting or drawing a day. Within photography there are many options: just a photo a day, or a daily photo using a specific style (like mine, details below), using the early bird filter, a self-portrait, a macro shot, the person’s view at a specific time of day/night, or many other ideas.  Mine is based upon a specific style, using a specific app and type of photo that I take. You can view my project on Instagram at #cw365a to get an idea of what it might be like.

On Hold Until After January 15th 2012

Hi All,
As you probably know from the Instagram feed, Wiren Lessons are on hold until After 15 January 2012 because of personal deadlines I have to meet.  After that date Wiren Lessons will return and be posted at least once a month, but as frequently as once a week.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding!
Callie

PS: Looking for something fun to work on in the meantime? Check out @Wiren_Challenges on IG for my December Holiday Adjectives photo challenge!

Wiren Lesson 1: Studio Critiquing

Lesson:
This week's lesson is a little bit different. This week's lesson is on how to critique the creative works of others.  This is an important skill, not only for helping others improve, but for improving your own artwork too. Once you develop the skills necessary for critiquing others' works, then you will be better skilled at critiquing your own work, which is vital to any artist no matter their career stage - developing, established, or veteran.

Wiren Lessons - Introduction

Basic Outline:
The lessons will fall within these ten sections, building upon one another.

Who is Wiren?

You may be wondering who this person is that is teaching these lessons on Instagram. This posting is designed to outline my background and to let you know my qualifications to be teaching these lessons. As you will see, you are getting a great opportunity for free by participating in these lessons.

Why Wiren Lessons?

Mission Statement:
Wiren Lessons endeavor to teach the artistry of iPhoneography. Lessons focus on composition, aesthetics, and creativity to help build a fuller understanding of image making and reception.
